Anthony Shieh (pronounced /Shyeh/) is a Taiwanese-Filipino-Dutch novelist, writer, and speaker. His debut horror novel, Head by the Ceiling, released this 2025 by Anvil Publishing. Anthony has also authored a range of other works, a collection of Poetry titled Verge, White Mocha Americano (Amazon #1 Bestseller), and Death of a Loved One in the Time of Pandemic (Philippine Inquirer's Noteworthy Books of 2024) have gained attention. Shieh's writing has earned him recognition as a "Rising Author Redefining the Future of Literary Genres" by The Manila Times and as "A Distinctive Voice in Modern Philippine Literature" by CHiNOY TV.

Art has always been personal for Anthony—he sketches designs for each of his novels, making each story feel even closer to him.  Growing up, he was inspired by children’s books like Nido Classic Tales From Around the World and The World’s Best Pocket Fairy Tales during trips to the supermarket with his mom.

It’s the only books his mother can afford which feeds his love for stories; they were a source of comfort during a challenging childhood. It ignited his imagination to write. He’d look forward to the latest pamphlet tucked into Nido milk boxes.

Anthony consistently writes with a strong sense of inclusivity, ensuring that characters in his stories have the opportunity to be heard and understood. He champions the importance of representation, showing that everyone deserves a platform in literature to share their stories.

Horror movies also played a huge role in shaping him as a writer. Both classic international and local horror films introduced him to the power of suspense and psychological fear, elements that now define his own horror stories. More importantly, they showed him how horror can reflect real-life struggles and societal issues. Books and films like these didn’t just spark his love for storytelling; they gave him an escape, a sense of belonging, and a reason to create. They fueled his desire to build worlds, evoke emotions, and, ultimately, tell his own stories.

Horror has always been Anthony’s element. He wrote his first horror story, Tormented, at the age of 14 and has dreamed of becoming a horror novelist ever since. Head by the Ceiling is the realization of that dream—his first full-length pure horror novel. The book features LGBTQ+ characters, explores themes of friendship, love, and family, and draws inspiration from Japanese folklore, yokai, and films like Final Destination, Evil Dead, Pulse, and It Follows. It delivers an emotional rollercoaster with immersive world-building and intense, terrifying moments. As an experimental author, he continually explores different ways to tell a story. However, every book he has written has served as a stepping stone, ultimately leading him back to where he truly belongs—horror.
